Patten Chapel at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, TN |Review with Wedding Photography by Chattanooga Photographer
By Kim Nix, a Chattanooga wedding photographer and owner/operator at Kim Nix Photography
We love giving brides and grooms information that can help them along in their wedding planning adventures! Our team had the pleasure of shooting Lauren’s wedding at Patton Chapel located at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, TN. We have written a review of the wedding venue from a photographer’s standpoint.
The Wedding Venue Review of Patten Chapel
Graded on these five points: Staff Collaboration, Rain Plan, Photogenic Inside, Photogenic Outside, Venue Lighting.
Staff : The staff at Patten Chapel in Chattanooga were very behind the scenes! We did not meet anyone except the clean up crew! The clean up crew was accommodating and waited on us to remove all of our equipment before the would even enter the room. What really impressed us were the students on campus – we never had trouble finding anything on the big campus because someone was always there to show us the way!
Rain Plan : The building is a chapel so most people getting married here plan on doing this inside the chapel. We will not take away a star for this feature of the wedding venue!
Photogenic Inside : Okay, so the ceremony hall is beautiful as you can see from the photographs. We did not especially love the getting ready area – there are signs on the wall that you can’t remove and the chairs/carpet are outdated. The vanity is very nice, but also close to an external air conditioning system that limits your angles towards the vanity. The wallpaper also has a slight yellow cast when a flash is used in the getting ready room. The rest of Patton Chapel is perfect – so we only took away half a star for their indoor photography photogenics.
Photogenic Outside : Covering a wedding at the venue is a must for any Chattanooga photographer; because it is flat out splendid! We love the towering stone building and the courtyard area for wedding party group shots.
Venue Lighting : The building is very well lit for the most part. The ceremony area has such high ceilings and so little light comes through the towering windows so it can prove a small challenge for some newer photographers. The hallways are well lit and extremely photogenic for natural light portraits and there are windows in the getting ready area.
Summary: Four and a half star Wedding Venue!
